Hoedspruit is a small tourism and agriculturally orientated town in the central Lowveld just outside the famous Kruger National Park in Mpumalanga. It is unclear how this town with its ever-present views of the escarpment, on the old Selati railway line from Phalaborwa to Kaapmuiden, acquired its name (Hoedspruit means 'hat creek'). What is undisputable is that Hoedspruit is the country's premier eco-tourist destination for visitors interested in game viewing and safaris, and other "Big 5" activities, as well as birding and hikes.
Abutting the Kruger National Park, the town is unsurprisingly surrounded by beautiful, game-rich countryside and is imbued with a distinctive rural charm. It is a growing town full of character and friendly people.
