The course is situated in Stellenbosch; the second oldest town in South Africa. Stellenbosch is a university and winemaking town that is steeped in interesting history. When playing a round at the golf course make sure to set aside time to visit this historical city.
The Stellenbosch golf course is nestled at the foot of the imposing Simonsberg Mountain and is surrounded by famous vineyards. The course boasts impressive views of Table-, Helderberg- and Stellenbosch- Mountains.
The course is a popular course as it is almost completely sheltered from the infamous southeasterly. Stellenbosch has been host to the South African masters in the past and hosted the South African Open Championship in 1999.
This course is characterised by narrow kikuyu grass fairways closely guarded by large trees and thick rough. At times playing around vineyards, which border the fairways, may be necessary. The par-four 6th is one such case.
We rate this course as a challenging holiday course. Well protected from the southeastern wind that plays havoc with other courses in the Cape, the course is scenic and in excellent condition. The elevated clubhouse overlooks the 18th and has a good restaurant and well-stocked pro shop.
Signature hole: Holes don't come much tighter than the uphill par-five 14th with its green hidden among the trees around the corner of a dogleg.
Course regulations: Appropriate golf attire is required. Booking a tee off time is essential. The Course is reserved for members on Saturdays, closed Good Friday and Christmas. Maximum handicap required in competition: Ladies 30, Men 24.
