1. Allow Time Before the Flight
If you want your holiday to go smoothly, start by allowing plenty of time before your flight. If your children are flying for the first time, you will need even more time for them to take in the new experience that they are about to encounter.
2. Work Off your Children's Energy Before Flying
Flying will be more pleasant if you can get your children to work off some extra energy before they fly. Use every opportunity to walk and move around before boarding.
3. Check Your Luggage First, Then Park the Car
We recommend that you drop off one person if possible to wait with the luggage, while you go and park the car. The children can then walk with you from the car park (which will hopefully help to work off some of that energy!). It is easier than trying to carry lugage and keep your children under control at the same time.
4. Take Children to the Bathroom before Boarding and Landing
When the captain illuminates the seat belt sign, children and adults can not leave their seats even for nature. Explain this before you fly and they might not even use the bathroom as an excuse for roaming around.
5. Let Children Take Turns At the Window
A window is the best place to sit on the air plane to view the trip - especially take-off and landings. If you have the opportunity to get a window seat, let the children take turns to look out the window.
6. Arrange For Children to Trade Places to Share Parents
The travel time is an opportunity for some quality time with each child. Plus, children who are enjoying uninterrupted attention from Mum or Dad are less likely to grow restless while flying.
7. Bring Toys, Books and Games for the Flight
Small wrapped presents are good attention grabbers when travelling. They also help to break the time into small segments: the time between gifts. Books and games will also keep children amused plus most airlines to carry a supply of children's packs.
